First Year Camper Program/Skills Camp

The Northwest Texas Council is conducting their 4th annual 1st Year Camper Program or “Skills Camp”. This is for all 2nd year Webelos Scouts that have bridged or are bridging over to a Boy Scout Troop in the spring of 2008. This event is being held at Camp Perkins on March 15-17, 2008.

The “Skills Camp” is designed for new Boy Scouts and will teach the basic requirements for Tenderfoot, 2nd and 1st Class. Areas of instruction will be: Knots, Lashing and Ropes, First Aid, Map and Compass, Cooking, Camping and Nature. These programs will be taught by adult Scouters and experienced Boy Scouts. All are experienced trainers. Scouts who attend and complete all the training will be eligible to earn rank in their Troop and is a Scout has been in a Troop and attended several campouts, they may be able to complete requirements for rank through 1st Class. A gear list is listed below.

The “1st Year Camper Program” schedule will begin promptly at 8 am each day and end at 5pm. Troops may stay overnight but you must make your own arrangements for adult leadership and meals. You must also have a tour permit filed at the Scout Service Center. Lunch is the only meal that will be furnished for participants and staff. Non participants may purchase lunch meal tickets for $3.00 each prior to the event. Snacks and drinks will be provided during the day for participants. Cost for participants will be $35.00. The trading post will be open during camp with snacks and Scout equipment. Times will be posted when the trading post will be open. Scout uniforms need to be worn by all participants. Each Scout is also encouraged to bring his Boy Scout Handbook. A registration form and additional information is available at the Scout Service Center.
