Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training

This training is made up of 3 sessions discussed below. The sessions may be offered together in an 8 hour day or on separate days. Scoutmaster Specific Training should be followed as soon a possible by Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.

 Getting Started: The Role of the Scoutmaster in a Boy-Led Troop

 This session covers the role of the Scoutmaster, troop organization and troop meetings. Working with boys and the patrol method are emphasized as is how to have an effective patrol leaders council.

 Approximate time - 2 hours 40 minutes

 Lighting the Fire: The Outdoor Program and the Advancement Program

 How to put sizzle in the outdoor program is the emphasis of this session. Putting the nuts and bolts together to have safe, successful outdoor program leads to advancement.

 Approximate time - 2 hours 25 minutes

 Keeping it Going: Program Planning and Troop Administration

 Program planning, membership, paperwork, finances and the uniform are topics of this session. An overview of other training opportunities is also presented.

 Approximate time - 2 hours 30 minutes

For Scoutmasters and Assistants and for Committee Chairman and members. Fee is usually $10 and includes lunch. A minimum of 5 must be paid by the Wednesday before for class to continue. Fee is $15 after deadline. Please RSVP to Council Service Center (940) 696-2735.
